Food & Pharma · Water
Water in food & pharma — an ingredient, treated like one.
In these industries, water is a raw material that touches the final product. Glorinda delivers process water, ultra-pure water, purified water and water-for-injection quality — plus the utility water that runs steam and cooling.
Overview
Water in food & pharma — an ingredient, treated like one.
Water in food and pharma is not just waste to be treated — it is a process input that directly affects taste, quality, shelf-life and safety. Glorinda covers the whole water map: utility water for steam and cooling; process water for production lines; and ultra-pure water up to purified-water (PW) and water-for-injection (WFI) quality.
Our post-treatment set — ion exchange, mixed bed and EDI — reaches the purity these industries demand, with online monitoring to support GMP compliance. For high-COD CIP and dairy effluent, our AnaeroMBR and adsorbent technologies handle the wastewater side.
Typical applications
Where it fits

Our approach
Water that ends up inside the product
In most industries water is a utility. In food, beverage and pharmaceutical production it is a raw material that reaches the consumer, and that changes the engineering entirely. TDS, dissolved metals or microbial contamination do not merely cost efficiency — they affect taste, texture, shelf-life, regulatory compliance and patient safety.
The water map in these plants runs across three distinct grades. Utility water feeds boilers and cooling systems that drive pasteurisation, sterilisation and drying; raw water hardness and silica scale boiler tubes, cut heat transfer, raise fuel consumption and corrode equipment. Process water touches the production line directly and must be treated with membranes, RO and UF/NF to protect the product. Ultra-pure water — purified water and water-for-injection grade — is produced through ion exchange, mixed bed and electrodeionization.
EDI deserves particular attention in a regulated environment. It produces ultrapure water by removing dissolved ions, minerals and impurities without regeneration chemicals, operates continuously, and generates no hazardous acid-base regeneration waste. Its initial investment runs about 20% above a mixed bed system, but operating cost is lower, maintenance is minimal and the footprint is smaller because no acid and alkali storage is required.
The wastewater side matters just as much. CIP effluent carries alkaline and acidic detergents, fats, proteins and organic material at high COD, and dairy processing adds lactose and fat loads that produce large sludge volumes. Our AnaeroMBR treats these streams to reuse quality while recovering methane, turning one of the plant’s largest effluent problems into an energy source.

FAQ
Good to know
Can you produce WFI-grade water?
Yes. Our post-treatment set — ion exchange, mixed bed and EDI — reaches purified-water and water-for-injection quality, with online monitoring to support GMP compliance.
Why does water quality matter so much in food?
Because water is an ingredient. TDS, metals or microbial contamination can affect taste, quality, shelf-life and safety, so process water is treated to protect the final product.
How do you treat CIP and dairy wastewater?
With pre-treatment, biological or anaerobic membrane treatment (AnaeroMBR) and adsorbent polishing, designed for the high-COD load and the discharge target.
Specify your water quality with our engineers.
Tell us the grade you need — process, ultrapure, PW or WFI — and your utility loads, and we will design the water system.
