Overview

Energy storage — make renewable power dispatchable.

Renewable generation is only as useful as your ability to store and shift it. Glorinda engineers five storage technologies — hydrogen storage, thermal storage, battery energy storage systems (BESS), mechanical storage and pump-turbine storage — matching the technology to the duration, power and application you need.

Storage integrates naturally with our renewable and fossil generation: CSP with molten-salt heat storage, PV with BESS or hydrogen, and pumped-storage hydropower for long-duration balancing.

Typical applications

Where it fits

  • Battery energy storage (BESS)
  • Hydrogen storage
  • Thermal / molten-salt storage
  • Mechanical storage
  • Pump-turbine (pumped storage)
  • Renewable firming & grid support

Common challenges

  • Renewable intermittency and curtailment
  • Matching supply to an industrial load
  • Grid stability and peak shaving
  • Long-duration versus fast-response needs

Glorinda’s answer

  • BESS for fast response and peak shaving
  • Hydrogen and thermal for longer duration
  • Pump-turbine for long-duration balancing
  • Integration with CSP, PV and wind

Our approach

Duration is the question, not capacity

Most storage conversations start with megawatt-hours, but the decision that matters is duration: how long do you need to hold the energy, and how quickly must it respond? Answer that and the technology largely selects itself.

Batteries (BESS) excel at fast response and short duration — frequency support, peak shaving, smoothing a renewable plant’s output over minutes and hours. Thermal storage, particularly molten salt paired with concentrated solar, is far cheaper per unit of energy stored when what you actually need is heat or dispatchable steam. Hydrogen suits long duration and seasonal shifting, and carries the additional advantage of being usable as a feedstock rather than only as fuel. Mechanical and pump-turbine storage remain the strongest options for very long duration where the site allows.

Because Glorinda engineers all five, the recommendation follows your load profile and grid connection rather than a product we happen to represent. Storage is also rarely a standalone project: it usually arrives alongside solar, wind or a plant upgrade, and it is engineered as part of that system.

FAQ

Good to know

Which storage technology do we need?

It depends on duration and power. BESS suits fast response and peak shaving; hydrogen and thermal suit longer duration; pump-turbine (pumped storage) suits long-duration grid balancing. We match the technology to your load.

Can you add storage to an existing renewable plant?

Yes — storage integrates with CSP (molten-salt), PV and wind (BESS or hydrogen), and with hydropower as pumped storage.
